Growth unabated for logistician Gebrüder Weiss

Expansion to come from beefing up existing location – 4 million Euro earmarked for the future; 40 new jobs

All signs denote an upward trend for Gebrüder Weiss Transport and Logistics – even, or perhaps more precisely, especially – at the Memmingen location. In a move indicative of incalculable value, ground-breaking took place on Monday – symbolising the start of construction on the location’s expansion, all told to encompass a total investment of four million Euro.

Gebrüder Weiss originally established its Memmingen branch five years ago and from that day forward, the transport and logistics enterprise has chronicled only break-neck speed growth. Total useable floor area, now at approximately 3300 square meters, will soon be enlarged by 6000 square meters to over 9,478 square meters; thus nearly tripled. New projects, new services, new customers have all led to increased space requirements. The new building will provide added storage and pallet space, extending at times over two floors, as well as new staff areas and offices. The employee base, currently at 65, will be supplemented by another approximately 40 people, which means jobs for the region. The company looks to conveniently solve the parking problem with underground parking.

"We are of course very pleased that the Austrian company not only decided to locate here, but will now be expanding on top of that with such a forward-looking project,” comments Dr. Ivo Holzinger, Lord Mayor of the city of Memmingen. He staunchly believes that the freight forwarder has chosen the right location for this investment. For the city of Memmingen, this expansion means added jobs, economic prospects and business tax. "And, naturally, that much more of that positive orange colour,” he added, alluding to the hue of the company’s logo.

Memmingen: key location for the Gebrüder Weiss network
"Why we singled out Memmingen for expansion is a no-brainer,” states Wolfgang Niessner, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG. Under the direction of Branch Manager Anton Hagg as well as Regional Director Roland Gander, the location has developed so extremely successfully that it was at the brink of its capacity limit. "This expansion is absolutely necessary and we expect it to bring new opportunities for significantly developing our logistics services, being able to offer our customers more varied and even better solutions.” Since the Memmingen location has shown such extremely positive results – from 2005 to 2006 alone, a 30% increase in sales – Niessner is confident that this positive development will continue. The Memmingen location is a key component of the GW company network because it meets the requirements of local customers and at the same time provides the Allgäu-Bodensee (Lake Constance) region of Southwest Germany with well-oiled logistics.
The Gebrüder Weiss organisation employs well over 4,000 people around the world. Net sales for 2006 totalled 870 million Euro. These numbers are the best proof that the transport company’s bottom-line strategy of being a "regional player” whilst having its network span the globe is bearing fruit.

Anton Hagg feels above all indebted to the company’s customers and employees. "In order to have success in any market, you need a working relationship with successful customers. And without employees backing up the company fully and completely, our success would never have been possible!” Hagg wishes all the firms involved in the four-million Euro construction project 100% accident-free performance.
