First Gebrüder Weiss office in Bosnia and Herzegovina
With the opening of its newest location in Sarajevo, Gebrüder Weiss guarantees seamless transport conditions to and from the Balkan region.
Sarajevo lies at the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is the economic and political hub of the country. Erich Schafer, Regional Director/South: "On the one hand, taking this step enables us to now also offer our existing customers in the GW homeland uninterrupted quality and service to and from Bosnia and Herzegovina. And, on the other, entering the market under our own name gives us the opportunity to position our GW services to this market.”
Yet, establishing the office did not prove a simple matter: Bosnia is a federation consisting of three cantons, each having its own administrative centre. Jadranka Udovicic-Eisenwagner, National Director/Croatia: "Without the concentrated efforts of our national director Almir Jonuz, our entry into the market would have never been realised so quickly.”
A boon for incoming Western companies
On 1 August, seven new GW employees began operations in spacious offices right at the Customs complex. Jadranka Udovicic-Eisenwagner: "We found highly motivated employees with industry knowledge, who will undoubtedly quickly come into their own within the GW organisation.” Right from the very first day, customs clearing and distribution was realised for such notable clients as HP, GM, Hilti, Daikin and Bosch.
One month after the start of operations, daily departures are offered from Zagreb as well as several times weekly from Vienna. Schafer foresees strong development potential particularly for distribution and procurement to and from Western Europe in addition to warehouse logistics and logistics solutions. The regional director maintains that especially the latter realm will take on greater significance in the future as more and more Western companies move in. Medium-term plans now include expanding the range of services and launching a proprietary logistics system.
