GW building new forwarding centre in Basle

This means that the transport and logistics company will be moving closer to its customers.

With its new 4,000 m² large forwarding centre by the A2 motorway at Basle, featuring a logistics warehouse, Gebrüder Weiss will in future be offering more efficient transport services. Covering the area of three football fields, a new and highly modern forwarding centre is coming into existence at the industry park at Pratteln, near Basle. With an investment of 11 million Euros, GW will not just be able to offer its customers general cargo transports in future, but also logistics solutions.

Efficiency covering an area of 20,000 square metres
"We are delighted that that we are now also carrying out our own construction project, following ten successful years in the region,” says Cuno Mattioli, Manager of the GW Basle branch. Construction work at the 11 million Euro plant is planned to be concluded by the end of 2008. Apart from a newly erected 2,000 square metre transhipment hall, customers will also benefit from the new logistics warehouse with room for 4,500 pallets. "Apart from daily general cargo right across Europe, we will also be offering logistics solutions,” adds Mattioli enthusiastically.

Waiting times minimised
Because of direct departures to and from Austria and the neighbouring CEE countries, GW will be constructing a new transportation hub in Pratteln for booming markets in Europe. "The forwarding centre means that in future we can offer more value-added services and customised logistics solutions,” says, Roland Gander, GW Western Regional Director. "Because we are minimising the waiting times of trucks, thanks to generous loading areas, we can guarantee our customers a more efficient and comprehensive service."

Logistics creates jobs
According to the Regional Director, the current 45 employees at the Basle locations will soon be added to. "We are forecasting that the newly-created forwarding centre will mean that the added logistics solutions and staffing levels can be doubled within five years, thanks to the new forwarding centre.” GW is already represented in Switzerland at the locations Basle, Altenrhein and Zurich airport.
